PSYCHOLOGY OF JUSTICE: VICTIMS OF VIOLENCE AND CRIME

The area of ​​Psychology linked to Justice presents itself in Portugal as an emerging area on a professional level, a fact that stems largely from the proximity, increasingly evident between Psychology and Law. The concern for the support to the victim justice, for security, social welfare, criminal prevention makes the training of professionals in the field of Psychology of Justice with a special focus on the study of victims of violence and crime, as a growing need, capable of expressive supporting multidisciplinary cooperation, by contributing with a perspective of study and more sociopsychological analysis of phenomena of juridical scope.

 

The existence of a teaching staff with specialized training in the area and the practical component that can be associated not only by the existence of a Pedagogical Clinic of Psychology, but also by the practical experience of some of the teachers in the field of intervention of Justice as technicians, forensic experts or even psychotherapists in these areas, give credit to the teaching provided at the level of this Master degree.

 

This Master degree, in addition to good academic support, requires a continuous research work, complementary to the teaching activity. Thus, among the main objectives of this Masters is the deepening of knowledge in the fields of psychology linked to justice and is important to the pursuit of this purpose the training of the student to practice research and/or intervention with victims of violence and crime.

PUBLIC

The Master is open to people with a degree in Psychology and who show interest in obtaining a quality experience and renewal of knowledge and practices in the area of the Psychology of Justice, oriented towards a better profession.

 

General conditions:

According to article 17, paragraph 1, of Decree-Law no. 74/2006, of 24 March, as last amended by Decree-Law no. 65/2018, of 16 August, may apply for access to the cycle of studies leading to the master degree (2nd cycle):

  • Holders of the degree of licenciado or legal equivalent;
  • Holders of a foreign higher academic degree, awarded after a 1st cycle of studies, organized in accordance with the principles of the Bologna Process in a foreign country that adhered to said process;
  • Holders of a foreign higher academic degree, which is recognized as fulfilling the objectives of the degree of licenciado by the scientific body recognized by the statutes of the higher education institution where they wish to be admitted;
  • Holders of a school, scientific or professional curriculum that is recognized as attesting the ability to carry out this cycle of studies by the competent scientific body recognized by the statutes of the higher education institution where they wish to be admitted.

Selection Criteria:

  1. a) Degree of licenciado or legal equivalent in the scientific area of the Master degree;
  2. b) Best final classification of the degree of licenciado or legal equivalent;
  3. c) Degree of licenciado or legal equivalent in scientific area more related to that of the masters;
  4. d) Curriculum vitae and letter of motivation.

EXCHANGE PROGRAM/STUDY ABROAD
