PHD IN LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT AND DISORDERS

Full Accreditation, for 6 years, by A3ES (Portuguese Accreditation Agency), 11-07-2012 (link)

The 3rd cycle in Language Development and Disorders aims at the advanced oriented study in specialized areas of speech, language and hearing sciences, and its main purpose is the development of autonomous, fundamental or applied research capacity in the 2 branches of specialization that integrates 2 research areas:

  • Psycho-Neurolinguistic Development
  • Language Disorders

To this purpose, it comprises, in its 1st year, a PhD course aimed at training for research, as well as at the deepening of topics on communication and its disorders, in order to provide students, with or without clinical backgrounds in these areas, the specialization needed to prepare their thesis.

Focusing on a topic of great relevance and of increasing importance, this 3rd Cycle of Studies emphasizes an inter and transdisciplinary training, where various knowledge, such as linguistics, psychology, medicine and neurosciences intersect for a common interest in the domain of the language sciences: to increase the understanding of the normal and pathological aspects of its development and processing, in order to contribute to the production of knowledge with possible application in the fields of health and education.
